Who services tankless (on demand) water heaters? - EightFingers - 09-22-2015
The deal with my faucet led me to do some research on tankless water heaters. Seems like there is some maintenance that needs to be done periodically. I can clean the inlet water filter myself, but pulling the fan assembly and burner assembly looks like something that I could screw up pretty easily. The annual descaling procedure also requires a circulation pump and hoses. I don't have this stuff....
What I'm looking for is for someone (probably a plumber?) that can do this. Who has these heaters and does this maintenance?

With the acidity and low mineral content of catchment water I suspect descaling doesn't need to be done very often.

Vancouver: I'm using primarily well water. Not sure how that contributes to scale buildup.
Kalakoa, my system has service valves in place. Let me know if you get the "descaler" from Amazon, looks like something I could easily add in.

Vancouver: that's what we thought too, but when our "still under warranty" tankless died, the manufacturer refused to cover warranty repairs because we hadn't performed regular descaling. Our factory-authorized plumber fought the good fight for us re: catchment water, but they refused to back down. Descaling isn't that complicated on our unit, so we now do it regularly and keep good records.

Just got through flushing my unit, seems like it helped some. The people who owned my house before me didn't seem to be the kind to do much maintenance as I have been finding out.
The pump, hoses and vinegar were less than $130, no doubt less than what a plumber would charge and next time I have to do it, I have the equipment paid for.

scale - I would not think that would be an issue on catchment ......I have had to solder up a pin hole or two in the last 8 years on one of my ecotemps .....bad oem solder joint and low ph rainwater me thinks
