Are You Ready for the Holidays? - opihikao - 09-23-2015

Well, it's that time of year! Are you ready? [Big Grin] Get on that Ebay, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Toys4Us, etc., website and start getting those "deals"!!!

In this hale mo'opuna (and kids who are their parents) get SPAM, Vienna Sausage, bag of rice, starter veggie plants, and underwear, wrapped under the tree. Already started ordering "war food" (ie. deviled meat, MRE's, etc.) for my darlings...[Big Grin]

We try to bring them back to what Christmas is all about. It is not "what do I get?", nor "I WANT THIS!"....A'ole. (Right eyebrow up, with finger shaking in their face. [Smile]) In reflection, whether Christian, or not, the beginning and end of life depends on our doings.

As most cultures have, here in Hawai'i, there is a "Holy night", or several nights. We have many in our culture, based on the moon, the stars, etc.

The essence of our combined belief is shown below, "O Holy Night", by Willie K. (the original version....Watch his body language, and intent while singing):

Have a lovely evening, and if anybody get "deals", please post it!

Mahalo in advance.

JMO.

Jeez, it's still September! What's going on? It comes earlier ever year...

Anyway, having a Brit Christmas this year. Flights booked and although I'll be in the air Christmas day, it'll be nice to get caught up on old traditions. Been a decade since I last experienced a UK Christmas.

(Sorry, PT, no doubt you'll get wound up, but no one gives a toss).

To me there is just something very wrong about bringing up Christmas before Halloween, and I really wish everyone go back to waiting until Thanksgiving to start the commercial push in the stores and media. I don't want to hear carols until December and having the media saturated with Christmas advertising starting in October is just depressing. If I was a devout Christian the crass commercialization that uses a religious holiday to push consumerism would be really offensive to me. For all the people in this country who do not celebrate the holiday, and many who do, the 6 months of Christmas is way over the top; when I was a kid the town hung the decorations right right after Thanksgiving and the tree lots popped up at the same time, that was plenty of time for people to get excited without the overkill of today.

Working seasonal retail for many years during the "Christmas season" made me hate everything about the holiday for years after I quit doing that, I had severe Christmas Overkill Syndrome (COS) which causes severe nausea when exposed to the colors red and green together or the sound of jingle bells. I've never dealt with so many jerks or had to work so many ridiculous hours and back to back shifts as I did from November to the end of the post holiday sales in January every year. So everybody, be nice to the service people who don't see their families for weeks on end so you can go shopping for towels on Thanksgiving day and buy a TV at midnight on Christmas Eve.

Not really, just probably a smart shopper in a sense. Why buy an item when it is at its premium price in the Christmas season while also being in high demand? Only drawback is "where the heck did I hide that freaking thing!" .
Also, a lot of stuff goes on sale about this time of year to deceive you when the sale is over and they inflate it for the Holiday season, then Christmas clearance does it again for next years profit window as my view of marketing strategy.

Totally agree, already planned Christmas over the summer, now I'm working out that Easter feast, already have the colored eggs.

People are talking every day about an election in Nov of 2016. Christmas 2015 is a hop, skip, and a jump compared to that.

I was at Target yesterday. Their Halloween decorations are picked-over, and they're putting in the Christmas stuff. Sheesh!
