"A Sky Wonderful with Stars" - TomK - 09-28-2015
This book was quietly published a few weeks ago, but thought some here would be interested. It's a coffee table book authored by Michael West which has several spectacular pictures of the observatories, Mauna Kea and the observations and discoveries made by astronomers using the MK observatories. The history of astronomy on Mauna Kea is traced, although it's not meant to be a detailed review of the history, it was written to be enjoyed by those interested.
Many observatory staff contributed to the book including specific observatory information and history as well as their own personal pictures.

Thank you Tomk, found this article to be interesting. A bit bias understandably for the books sake, none the less very impressive. Amazing how all of those spoken of discoveries, or man made observatory wonders, has come about on conservation or ceded lands. Here is another opinion or view to what is developing atop Maunakea. Pearl harbor was warned about prior to the day by our very own hilo tribune herald??

Trying to stay OT here - How do you feel about the new LED streetlights Tom? Better or worse for naked eye star gazing?

I don't know, KJ. The only two places I've done any star gazing recently is either on the mountain or at home, both are miles from the nearest streetlight. As for our observatory, it works in the infrared which isn't affected that much by light pollution, so can't help there either. Sorry, not very helpful I'm afraid.
