Hawaiian Acres - punagirl - 01-07-2006 I know some of these lots have ocean and or mountain view. Which areas of the 'hood have these views? If you are pretty far back, say E-G, do you avoid the flooding? I really like roads 10& 11. I know they are rough on the car but they are pretty quite and it seems like you could get a view from there. Atlanta/Pahoa RE: Hawaiian Acres - leilaniguy - 01-08-2006 Aloha punagirl, all the lettered roads in HA run down hill, all can flood in a deluge. Generally the grassy Pahoehoe covered lots usually have the best views, but they are also usually pretty flat, more prone to flooding. HA is such a vast area though, there are also many hilly forested lots with views too. You really need to get a map of available lots from a realtor and look at each one, try to find one with an obvious high spot. Also, try to talk to people living nearby, they know where the water flows. RE: Hawaiian Acres - Scott_S - 01-10-2006 I have a small house near 6 and F and can see the mountains and even the observatories on a clear day. I have even seen bit of ocean standing on my roof. No real water runoff near me, water will build up after a couple of days of rain but quickly disappears. Scott RE: Hawaiian Acres - Anna - 01-10-2006 We live on 11 Road (also known as Pulelehua Road) and just love it. Yes, it's pretty rough - funny story there. Our landlord didn't really share with us how rough the road is... Anyway - we now have an addition to the family Honda car - a Range Rover all wheel drive! I've not been down 10 Road but have been down 11 all the way to the end. You can tell where 11 Road floods by the deep puddles in the road. Everywhere there is a dip in the road, the water flows across it when it rains. C Road, to my understanding, is the worst one to flood. 11 Road becomes a "river" during a hard rain, but after it stops raining, 11 Road is passable after about an hour. You can tell where the "rivers" flow on the land by the tall grasses that grow on what appears to be ditches. Most people who have built here already have done a good job of building the homes out of the way of the water. It's truly lovely here - private - great neighbors (at least between B and C Roads...and yes, ocean views. Here - we can see the ocean through the trees from the second floor. I personally wouldn't want to cut the trees down just to have a better ocean view - but some lots have less trees than others. We have alot of Ohia, a couple of Monkey Pod trees, and several tall palms on the property here. I hope this helps and will be glad to help anyway I can. Peace - Anna RE: Hawaiian Acres - HADave - 01-16-2006 Hi Anna, The Acres, it was great hearing of things there and would sure hope you would continue posting about the goings on there. perhaps a continuation of your piggy problem or even just what the days are like there for you. Just get your literary paintbrush out and go nuts!! ) Aloooha HADave & Peggy RE: Hawaiian Acres - Anna - 01-17-2006 Aloha HADave and Peggy, I was just sitting out on the deck before starting dinner and was listening to all the Sunset noises. It's probably because I'm paying more attention but dusk seems to be the best time to listen. Roosters crowing and answering one another, a horse neighs, dogs bark way off in the distance, a TV, the slow "crunch" of someone driving down the road, pigs grunting and squealing, a coqui frog or two begin their nightly mating calls, a couple of voices. It's the most peaceful experience I've ever known. It reminds me of visits with my Grandparents down in the Appalachia mountains of Western Virginia and SE Kentucky. Once the Sun goes behind the trees, the cool night air nips here and there. Well...thanks for the incentive to write. Anna Peace - Anna RE: Hawaiian Acres - HADave - 01-18-2006 Anna, Mahalo Plenty ))) We would just love to see you continue as often as you can. Please help keep this thread alive. If there is anyone else reading this, that lives in The Acres please come forth and Talk Story of your heartfelt experiences living here........ Aloha! HADave & Peggy RE: Hawaiian Acres - Scott_S - 01-18-2006 Two more weeks to go and we will back in HA for 18 days, can't wait. Dave anything you need checked out while we are there? This trip we do not have much worked planned, going to get in some hiking, snorkeling, and just relax. I do need to get a coat of paint on the place though. Aloha, Scott & Julie RE: Hawaiian Acres - HADave - 02-17-2006 Aloha everybody I just wanted to publicly say how great it was the Scott and Julie checked out our lot for us while they were there on vaca. They even did a walkabout for us and told of how beautiful and private it was. What great soon to be neighbors we have. Here's to you both ALOHA! I'm guessing your back to the mainland now. If so drop me a line I'd like to get your address and show our real appreciation. Can anyone guesstimate the walking time from D road to the highway (rt11)? Now that there is a bus running from Hilo to Kau I might be able to get there sooner. appreciate any responses. HADave RE: Hawaiian Acres - John S Rabi - 02-17-2006 Walking from D Road to the highway is a LOOOONG walk but I am pretty sure you would get a ride in no time. When my girlfriend lived in Hawaiian Acres I saw lots of hitchikers getting a ride to the highway. John S. Rabi ABR,CM,CRB,FHS,PB,R http://www.JohnRabi.com Typically Tropical Properties 808.327.3185 |
