Dengue Fever Supplies - Products & Stores - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-13-2015

I thought it might be good to start a new thread specifically to help people find dengue fever prevention supplies. If you know of a product that repels or kills mosquitoes, and where it is available please post here. If you can't find a product that has worked well for you in the past, post it and hopefully someone will know where to find it.

Yes I've read a paper from an East Indian physician, seems this remedy is accepted by the medical community, common, and quite successful. The blood platelet level rises to normal ranges in about 3 hours.

If you do a little more research on this you find quotes that say it's a cruel hoax and all of the stories lead to the same person who was cured. Apparently the stuff tastes like crap.I will stick to prevention.

ACE in Pahoa had a lot of coils and repellent last Sunday. It was on the last row to the right when you get to the area where the store tees to the left and right.Go all the way down the aisle to the right and then make a left. It's on the left end of that row. It's not with the rest of the common pesticides for ants and other critters.

Yep yep ... I thought it was something positive too ... Till you look into it.

Was in Keaau Ace today; they were sold out of coils. I think I have an ample supply but wouldn't mind having a few more packs on hand for an upcomming group outdoor event, as I expect it will be appreciated. I don't normally use Off type repellent sprays, but have been keeping an eye out for a can of that for any situation where coils aren't feasible.

Foodland Keaau has a few Off sprays left (the pump kind) and a few packets of coils.

Someone from a facebook group I belong to was advocating a product called Jackass Bitters. They used it daily while traveling extensively in dengue invested areas and never came down with it. I ordered some for myself just in case. It's also supposed to be good for other parasites.

Pyrethrins are sold for use on cats for flea and tick control. Since people can't follow dosing instructions, or worse yet used dog-strength potions on cats, we quickly found out that cats and pyrethrins don't always mix.

Like this article says: "Flea and tick shampoos or collars specifically labeled for cats are safe to use." ( http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/pyrethrin-pyrethroid-poisoning-in-cats/10988 )

(I worked at a humane society for many years and we would...cautiously... use such products on cats. Since then, a dozen or so safer products have come onto the market. And a few of those that were labeled for cats, are no longer labeled for cats).

All that being said, unless you allow your cat to eat your clothes after spraying with Sawyer Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent, I highly doubt your cat would be at risk from such a minimal exposure.
