Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-18-2015 Ever wondered how many satellites are passing over Hawaii, right now? Find out on a website called Line of Sight. I've set the link for Honolulu showing visible (at night) satellites. Watch the little boxes appear and move across the screen, hover your cursor over them, or any orbit line and get info on that satellite. If you really want to see the screen fill up click "Load More" on the right hand side of the screen: http://patriciogonzalezvivo.github.io/LineOfSight/?type=visible#6/21.310/-157.852 Background info for Line of Sight: http://gizmodo.com/find-your-house-on-this-map-and-see-the-satellites-pass-1743261660 RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - Obie - 11-18-2015 I use spaceweather.com http://spaceweather.com/flybys/flybys.php?zip=96778 When the ISS passes over it is quite a sight. RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - TomK - 11-18-2015 This is a link I posted here a few months ago. I like it because it'll tell you what kind of object is passing overhead: http://stuffin.space/ This is what I posted back then: "Some of you know that recently some of UKIRT's work on Mauna Kea has switched to a NASA-led project called "Planetary Protection". UKIRT's main role is to use infrared light to help understand the composition of both asteroids that might threaten the Earth and also orbital debris that might either re-enter the Earth's atmosphere or collide with other objects orbiting Earth. There is now a fascinating website (no connection with UKIRT) which has live "3-D" tracking of objects orbiting the planet, including satellites, rocket bodies and orbital debris. You can zoom in and out, re-orientate the display and click on objects to find out what they are. Maybe useful if you're star-gazing and wondering what's that "satellite" you can see. Red dots are satellites, blue dots are rocket bodies and grey dots are debris. There's a lot off stuff out there. http://stuffin.space/ Unfortunately you'll likely need a decent internet connection, but if you do, enjoy!" RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - beejee - 11-19-2015 Great links guys, thanks for posting! Obie: Totally agree, I saw ISS fly over Salt Lake City once, it was incredible. I'll keep en eye out next time it's visible from Hawaii - if it ever is. RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - TomK - 11-19-2015 Beejee, "Obie: Totally agree, I saw ISS fly over Salt Lake City once, it was incredible. I'll keep en eye out next time it's visible from Hawaii - if it ever is." It is, regularly. http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/ RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - Obie - 11-19-2015 Thanks Tom Great site. On November 27th it will be visible for 4 minutes and reach 82*. I saw it at 87* in Ohio a few years ago and I have also seen it in Salt Lake City ! RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - AKpilot - 11-19-2015 I love the Iridiums! AKpilot We're all here, because we're not all there! RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - TomK - 11-19-2015 Ever taken avoiding action when something bright suddenly appears in front of you? Just curious. I used to post in an aviation website because the pilots there tended to post about astronomical phenomena they saw and thought I'd might be able to help. They also helped me understand something I couldn't explain at the time, but that's for another time. They had some funny stories. At least one very experienced pilot took avoiding action to miss Venus, and another refused to take off, after being given clearance, because there was a helicopter in the way. It turned out it was Venus. RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - beejee - 11-20-2015 Thanks Tom. Here's a site that shows a live ground track of ISS plotted against google maps. http://iss.astroviewer.net Skies permitting, I'll be watching on the 27th. RE: Map of Satellites Over Hawaii - Live - TomK - 11-20-2015 Thank you, beejee. When I checked your link the ISS was flying just a few miles from being directly overhead where I grew up. Nice coincidence! |
