Been watching in between clients and conference calls today, amazing performances by some really outstanding athletes! Makes me wish my knees hadn't been blown out playing football in HS, no way I could get up into a standing position from kneeling on a surfboard! My hat is off to those guys and all the water safety support teams who keep them safe.

Almost twenty years ago I got wiped out by a 5-ft wave on my first attempt at boogie boarding at Hapuna and have never tried it again. I limped out to shore swearing the only sport I'll ever try again involves a bat and/or a ball and nothing else.

Watched and took pictures of The Eddie from the cliff. I have never seen the Bay like that. Speechless.

The guys on the webcast were saying waves were up to 60', which is staggering. Did they look that big flyingsurfer? On a video feed it's hard to get perspective on what you are seeing. The waves being ridden looked 30' range or so, but so hard to tell on the tighter shots they seemed to prefer. Clyde Aikau is my new hero out there riding the big ones at 66. Makes me think there's still hope... (not so much for big waves like that, but surfing in general)

I would call the sets in the 30-35 ft range. With some bigger ones closing out the bay. If I could post pictures on this site I would show you some waves to give you a better perspective.
