chainsaw recommendations - AKpilot - 03-07-2016 Husqvarna or Stihl what's everyone's preferences? I am looking at a 16 or 18 inch saw, basic yard work, a little orchard pruning from time to time....... Thanks! AKpilot We're all here, because we're not all there! RE: chainsaw recommendations - james weatherford - 03-07-2016 Stihl. It is what loggers use. It is what my small engine mechanic recommended. Mine works terrific. RE: chainsaw recommendations - kalakoa - 03-07-2016 Stihl. Ethanol-free gas. (and the pre-mix oil is much cheaper by the gallon...) RE: chainsaw recommendations - Guest - 03-07-2016 Stihl. My husqvarna is a pos. I've spent as much time trying to start it as I have using it to do work. --------------------------- You can't fix Samsara. RE: chainsaw recommendations - Rob Tucker - 03-07-2016 My Stihl finally quit after 30 years. I've never owned anything else with moving parts that lasted that long. RE: chainsaw recommendations - AKpilot - 03-07-2016 sweet! Thanks for the recommendations everyone, keep 'em coming. What length does everyone have? I was thinking an 18? 20" can be unwieldy at times, but if you get a big tree down, you will curse your 16" I live Hamakua Mauka at 2200' We would use it for Maintnence, orchard pruning, and firewood making. AKpilot We're all here, because we're not all there! RE: chainsaw recommendations - Tink - 03-07-2016 I have been using a Stihl 180C with a 16 inch bar for my "in the tree" trimming, as well as an equal size bar pole pruner for quick up to 16 foot trimming from the ground. Stihls have a higher rpm for better short bar use, in my opinion. For my big work I use a Husqvarna 365 with a 24 inch bar, as "Huskys" have a lower, more torque rpm. Both have been outstanding in use and longevity, as both saws are near 15 years old running on ethanol free gas, as I found the ethanol does not like to blend with some lubrication oils added to the fuel. RE: chainsaw recommendations - jlgerk - 03-07-2016 ditto Stihl RE: chainsaw recommendations - bgiles - 03-08-2016 Stihl. Bought my first one in '77 when I WAS a logger for personal use. Still have it! bamboo2u |
