The same tactics that doomed the Superferry in Hawaii have doomed TMT. Unfortunately, the recipe works.

Actually, the US Navy found hull problems using them for high speed troop transport. This is now a deactivated Navy vessel that has been sold off as military surplus. The hull problems were probably at high speed and this commercialized version won't be going that fast. The article says 5 1/2 hours for the trip. The existing ferry sounds like a conventional old ferry and takes over 11 hours. Not sure why some keep associating the Superferry with Hawaii State. It was a private venture, the State didn't have any money in it. It was the private haole investors that thought it was a good thing for Hawaii, just like all the other big, failed rummy do-gooder outsider ideas.

In the meanwhile... Hawaii Airlines is laughing their a@@ off... because they are the only passenger game in town... good job people.

: Edit for the people that commute to other islands daily.

Seems to be a two year lease. The US govt still owns the boat if its a lease deal ....The cost of the repairs was not that high ...stuff happens

Austral builds a good boat by and large

either way ....would the state of Hawaii be willing to cough up 10 million a year to provide affordable inter island service?

how much room is left on Billy's P card?

"Bay Ferries Limited, Charlottetown, P.E.I., will lease the 349’x78’x12’ Puerto Rico from the U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command, Nova Scotia provincial officials announced Thursday, confirming earlier media reports that a deal was imminent."

Anyone here ever get a chance to take a cruise on the superferry when it was operational in our Hawaiian waters? Doesn't sound all that pleasant, jmo.

Could we Possibly be seeing future floating hawaiian casino's with hundreds of locals working gaming jobs. While high stakes gamblers are thrilled and entertained between the different Hawaiian islands. No Just kidding, not sure why Hawaii was interested in these superferrys again?.

Just so you are clear on this point, it is against federal law for anyone to work in a casino if they have had a felony conviction. This is why Native American ran casinos have to "import" workers from outside their tribe. How many "locals" here have felony convictions?

Just so you are clear on this point, are you saying that so many Native Americans that live on US reservations have felony convictions that they have to hire people from outside their community to work at their casinos? The felony rate is that high for Native Americans? What kind a felonies are they committing?

The felony rate is that high for Native Americans?

"Felony" comes from an old Native American word which means "who cannot handle pCard".
