Racing on the Red Road - Obie - 05-15-2016

Came across this craigslist ad and posted it on the Big Island Thieves facebook page.

"races tonight & tomorrow night (red road)"

http://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/cto/5585156830.html

About half of the responses to the facebook post were people calling me names.

Obie, top of the morning to you.
That area of red road around the yakuza land between secrets and kapoho is great for late night racing. This has been good puna entertainment for several decades, usually causing little to no harm to anyone. The red road has received a makeover recently making it a wider and much smoother black top road. Its quite amazing to see or watch what some of these guys can do with a little old Honda car. Jmo

P.S. Obie, maybe try to drive down one of those late nights to watch. Usually the best racing is after 1:00 a.m as to try and avoid the po-po visits.

I was run off this section of the rod coming home from a lte nightparty. My car was totled and no one stopped to help. Not a good place , go to a race track.

What's the link for this Big Island Thieves facebook page? It doesn't come up in a search.

Gypsy, are you joking? Hard to tell sometimes.

G 69, I have to ask too, are you kidding?
A speeding car on a narrow road is guaranteed to kill a lot faster than a Geothermal emission.

It is only a matter of time before someone dies down here and I suspect it will be one of the 'hayabusa' type motorcycles that have been racing around lately.

RE: Racing on the Red Road - birdmove - 05-15-2016

The Suzuki Hayabusa, when it first came out, was said to be able to break 200 mph. Don't know if it's true. AS a motorcyclist with over 54 years of riding experience behind me, my question is, what the hell does anyone need to be able to ride at those speeds. About a 350-500cc and you can do anything you want on this island. Maybe a 750-800 if you need to ride two-up.
