the deep anger our pilots feel toward their senior management

Anything like the deep anger Hawaii residents feel towards the airlines?

Hawaiian already pays its pilots less than other airlines but they really stepped it up a notch when they launched their "Ohana" service. The aircraft and crew are leased from non-union Empire Airlines and flies under their FAA certificate so Hawaiian can fly Hawaiian "branded" service by leasing the metal and crews from a budget airline. Empire is relatively new to the passenger airline business having previously only existed to help FedEx circumvent paying union wages under a similar arrangement flying cargo only aircraft.

I absolutely hate Hawaiian Airlines because I often travel standby which doesn't extent to Hawaiian and if I'm off a day or two their normal $30 change fee usually turns into $180 to include the *difference in airfare*. Last minute tickets cost a fortune with this airline.

They boast the highest profits of any airline, have historically, repeatedly and underhandedly run off all competition with lawsuits. Absolutely the creepiest and evil run airlines on the planet bar none.

A friend just told me they merged with a computer company and are going global. Wonder what type of service we can expect in the future???

There is certainly enough money to pay them more. Huge drop in fuel prices and fares have actually gone up. The CEO of this rinky dink regional carrier made as much as the CEO of Delta a few years ago, though not sure how it compares now.

I'm sure the "island mark up" is alive and well.

Their airfares are too high from Hawaii Island to the mainland (which require a change of planes in Honolulu) That's why I fly the nonstop mainland carriers out of Kona. Should be interesting to see what they'll charge when they start nonstop service from Kona to Tokyo in the fall. Will it be the same fare as Honolulu-Tokyo? Or will it have " the island mark up"?

when they start nonstop service from Kona to Tokyo in the fall

If the Feds even allow this...

Having spent most of a month flying around the mainland on various carriers I could not wait to get back on a Hawaiian plane to fly home. They are roomier, have better customer service, and worked with me to make some schedule changes work when one of my meetings was switched to a different city. I also got much better fares to the mainland on Hawaiian by adjusting my departure day a little, easy to do since they show you a whole months worth of fares on the website.

United, on the other hand, are one of my least favorite carriers due to uncomfortable planes, terrible customer service, and completely demoralized employees. Delta wasn't too bad though.

A shame they never got the credit they deserved for running off Aloha.

But, as bad as they are, just another instance of the union doing in another company. They kill them all eventually.

I am pretty sure that this is a done deal. Wasn't there a thread on this forum about the improvements to Kona to accommodate this?
