Firefighters Douse House Blaze in Pāhoa - terracore - 06-05-2016 http://bigislandnow.com/2016/06/04/firefighters-douse-house-blaze-in-pahoa/ The Hawai‘i County Fire Department responded to a structure fire in P#257;hoa on Saturday, June 4. The alarm sounded at 10:23 a.m. The first unit arrived on the scene at 10:42 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-story home fully involved in flames. The fire was brought under control at 11:10 a.m. and was extinguished at 11:30 a.m. The home was not occupied; no one was injured. Damage was estimated at $130,000. -------------- In case you were wondering why it took the FD 20 minutes to get to the fire... it was actually near Kalapana. The wife and I decided to take a rare "drive" that morning when we happened upon the fire. The entire structure and nearby car were engulfed in flames. The FD showed up about 15 minutes later. While we were there the next door neighbor came out and said it was probably arson, that there was lots of drama going on, and different claims of ownership. The people who lived in the house showed up a few minutes later (before the FD) and the first thing out of the driver's mouth was "It was only a matter of time before they burned it down." RE: Firefighters Douse House Blaze in Pāhoa - Tink - 06-07-2016 Wonder where the tax dollars went for at least a 40 foot container converted to a substation/bunkhouse for a fire/paramedic unit to cut the response time in half...
