Puna Cannabis Club - Beachboy - 01-08-2008

Do you think Puna has a need for a Cannabis Club? They seem to be popping up in all the states have medical marijuana laws in place? So why shouldn't Puna have one. Are you for it, or against it and why?

Handle every situation like a dog,If you can't eat it or hump it,piss on it and walk away...

Cannabis is no more dangerous than drinking alcohol...and they have "social clubs" everywhere where people gather to drink, socialize and have fun (they're called bars). So why not a cannabis club.[^]

The related health, drug use and social stats look good where cannabis sale is regulated ie. Holland, Calif, ect.

Medically, cannabis is safer for human consumption than coffee. We're really talking about a substance that doctors will tell you is rated as a mild to moderate level drug, (cannabinoids).

So that fact should be considered, imho, when discussing dispensaries.

Certainly, the whole country would be much better off with regulated dispenaries, Puna included, imho.

A lawyer representing dispensaries in CA., says the DEA is defeated there. More new clubs are being opened everyday there than the DEA can raid.

Hawaii is a small place though and issues regarding security from the federal drug lords, I mean, government, would probably be an issue.

All that aside, it would be a blessing, for any number of reasons.

After all, the only people fighting to keep the black market in drugs in our communities are the people making money off of the black market in drugs, so we have every incentive to enact intelligent, non-criminal cannabis policies.

Roger Christie says the current City Council is very favorably disposed towards enacting more socially beneficial cannabis policy. btw.

The same California lawyer says the dispensaries make huge amounts of money, tens of millions per year for the larger ones.

This enormous wealth creation from an appropriately regulated industry really belongs on Main St., benefiting the people of Hawaii, imho.

Huge numbers of residents would be lifted out of poverty, with this high paying, labor intensive field, (production and regulated sales to adults).

The recent large scale Kaiser study shows that heavy pot smokers live 1-3 years longer than non-pot smokers, btw. This isn't about just pain relief. Not by a long shot friends.

Aloha!

Israel OK's Medical Pot thru Clinic

CLINIC OFFERS PUFF OF RELIEF FOR CHRONICALLY ILL

A Tel Aviv medical clinic has quietly begun giving marijuana to cancer and AIDS sufferers, legally and with Health Ministry approval, reports Yediot Tel Aviv. The move, the first of its kind in Israel, is aimed at alleviating the pain suffered by the chronically and seriously ill.

According to the report, the clinic began giving the drug to suffering patients about six months ago. By Israeli law, marijuana can legally be used as a medicine if a patient obtains a special license from the Health Ministry. The drug is approved only for patients with cancer, AIDS or Crohn's Disease ( a chronic gastro-intestinal illness ), and aims to help ease the chronic pain they suffer from the illnesses or as side-effects of treatments for the diseases. The clinic - which the Health Ministry has refused to identify publicly, reportedly either to prevent protests or to keep criminal elements away - gives out the drug in small, controlled quantities when a patient presents their license.

One cancer patient said the ministry's decision to offer the drug through the clinic was "a blessing," saying it prevents suffering patients from being driven to buy the drug illegally. The patient said more doctors and the Israel Cancer Association should be made aware of the therapeutic, pain-relieving benefits of marijuana, and not regard it solely as an undesirable and harmful illegal drug. A spokesman for the cancer association said it was true that the drug could reduce painful side-effects for some patients undergoing chemotherapy or other treatments, and the organization would consider adding information about this to its website.

RE: Puna Cannabis Club - Dave M - 01-08-2008

As a serious issue the answer is yes. Truthfully for all the reasons above and several more that are to numerous to go in to.

With that said, I vote that Beachboy be the president and/or CEO of such a start up. As for myself, I would, humbley, like to volunteer my services in the area of Quality Control.

Oh cmon you had to have seen that one coming...[8D]

Blessings,
dave

How would you get home from this place, drive a car?
Just what we need more stoned drivers on our roads.

RE: Puna Cannabis Club - Rob L - 01-08-2008

Would the club just provide marijuana to people with medical conditions? Or, with a wink and a nod, to recreational users. Everyone who is writing that it marijuana is not dangerious is making an argument that only applies to recreational use. (Since many medical treatments are dangerious, they are just judged to be a better option than the disease.) If we are really talking about better access for recreational users, shouldn't we be advocating for a change is state law?

Hey how bout if we had designated drivers? That would work. Oh wait, no it doesn't. I know, why don't we make it illegal to have parking lots for bars, weed or alchohol? Maybe we would cut down on the "I only had a couple of beers and murdered a family of three on my way home" drivers out there.

If I had to choose, as an EMT, I would much rather have my
friends drive home with someone who has smoked weed as opposed to someone who has had a few beers. Legalities a side, it's much easier to get someone out of jail as opposed to the morgue. But then again, I know and have experienced both substances!

No offense Scott, but really it's uninformed attitudes that keep millions of dollars of OUR money going to black hole projects like Green Harvest to fight a harmless substance. While serious problem drugs like heroin, crak and meth get left unchecked for the most part.

In all my days as a medic and a stretcher fetcher (driver) whether in the city (Dallas) or in the country I've never walked onto a bad wreck/scene where the people were smoking weed and caused the accident. On the other hand, I can't count the times I've responded to an accident that was the cause of a drunk or a tweaker.

I know I know... It's illegal so you shouldn't do it. And I agree with you BUT as long as beer is legal weed shouln't be considered any worse. There's no meritt to Hypocrisy in any society.

Blessings,
dave
