Five years for theft - alaskyn66 - 07-26-2016 Only in Hawaii is a statue worth more than human life..I'm referring to the case a while back involving a driver who killed a pedestrian.. left the scene.. and got 30 days. Although the Hilo statue is not as historical as others, it is culturally significant, adds to the charm of our town and belongs to all of us. If I recall, a bell was recently stolen from a temple. It had been there for years (I think it was recovered). Maybe this sort of vandalism should be taken seriously.
