TMT sign waiving - Support Astronomy - Hawaii Bound - 08-01-2016
I received the below email from the Chamber of Commerce so I thought I would share.
Support Astronomy: TMT Sign-Waving in Hilo
Thursday, August 4
4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Kanoelehua Avenue in front of Walgreens
TMT is organizing the sign-waving and will be providing Yes! TMT banners and hand held signs. We will also have “Imua TMT” t-shirts available as well.
Please plan to join us and let's show our community the large amount of support that exists for TMT and astronomy on Maunakea.

Mahalo Alaskyn66, your right The scholarships do mean something to some people. Just not all people start as or are treated as equal people here on the Big Island. jmo
For example, Pahoa high "public school" out here in Puna graduated 89 students this year. A record number 25 students are trying or applying for college, in which case the think fund would be a wonderful opportunity someday. The other 64 students who graduated Pahoa high this year won't ever know about those wonderful scholarships being offered for the use of their resources.
The Haole Protection Agencies "HPA" Private school in Waimea and the Hawaiian ONLY private Kamehameha School here In Keaau dominate these type of Think Fund Scholarships and many others. The chosen Few or hand-picked students continue to get most of the opportunities here while the majority of other students are never really included anywhere along the way. The majority of public school students not going to those two race different Keiki schools here on the big island in the 20th century are being left out or ignored. The majority may have to learn the greater importance of their heritage, culture, and traditions while valuing their resources being taken like land, water, Pele and the aloha spirit. Jmo

It's amazing how gypsy69 can always find flaws in any action or inaction.
I'll bet that if the US returned Hawaii to its "rightful" owners, relocated all who didn't have sufficient blood quanta by DNA testing, tore down the Walmart, and ripped out all the pavement ... it would still be unfair somehow.

So is it your contention that overlooked students not offered THINK scholarships will instead be encouraged ("learn the greater importance") to diligently study Social Studies, History, and Hawaiian Literature classes, rather than STEM courses? Isn't this a good thing, that will then allow them to apply for college scholarships in those fields?

I fear that today's students are learning by example: how to "peacefully demonstrate" until you get your way. Why build, when you can protest the building? Why get a job, when you can accept public benefits until your "reparations" are paid?
