Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - Aaron S - 08-17-2016 If you use a @hawaii.rr.com e-mail, you may consider switching your e-mail address to a hosted domain with a dedicated e-mail package. This is what I did, so I don't have to worry about transitioning my e-mail to @charter.com eventually. I doubt Charter wants to continue paying Time Warner Inc licensing fees to use the Road Runner trademark, so I suspect a transition will be looming down the line. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-17-2016 I suspect a transition will be looming You're probably right Aaron. They moved their online payment page (not sure if it had anything to do with the sale) and it took me 30 minutes and a dreaded Customer "Service" call to give them my money. The moon kind of surprises me sometimes. I’ll be out at night and I’ll see a nice moon, and say, “Hey, that looks good.” Then I’ll say, “Oh sh-t, I went up there one time!” Kind of surprises me. It’s like there are two Moons, you know—the one that’s usually around, and then that one. - Michael Collins, Apollo 11 astronaut RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - Chunkster - 08-17-2016 I am on Time Warner's autopay, and my arrangements haven't changed so far. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - EightFingers - 08-17-2016 It's funny I'm seeing ads all the time for "Time Warner". People in the office (Hilo) don't like to talk about it. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - Kelena - 08-17-2016 What is a "hosted domain" with a "dedicated email package"? Any example?I'm not looking forward to this changeover. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - leilanidude - 08-18-2016 Kelena - it would be overkill for 99% of the population. Just sign up for a GMAIL account. I don't think Google is going anywhere, at least in our lifetimes. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - kalakoa - 08-18-2016 GMail will handle your personal domain; for me, it's totally worth an extra $10/year registration to "own" the domain so I never have to change my email address again. Something like this: 1. Find an available domain and register it with GoDaddy or similar, making sure to uncheck all the "upsell" options (website, hosted email, etc). Registration can be for several years instead of annual renewal. IANA requires correct contact information, best to use a PO or RR box here, phone number isn't necessary. 2. Sign up with GMail and use the "custom domain" option, GMail will give you a "validation key". 3. Log in to the GoDaddy management portal, use the "zone editor" to insert the GMail validation key into your domain (copy-paste). 4. Sign in to GMail with your new email address. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - Aaron S - 08-18-2016 Go Daddy offers a cloud version of Microsoft Office 365, which includes e-mail access that can be linked to your Go Daddy domain. You get 5GB of e-mail storage for 4.99 a month. https://www.godaddy.com/email/professional-email You can access your e-mail through a e-mail client, such as Mozilla Thunderbird that supports POP3, or IMAP. RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - kalakoa - 08-18-2016 Go Daddy offers a cloud version of Microsoft Office 365 Google has proven to be somewhat more trustworthy than Microsoft... RE: Time Warner Cable/Charter Transition - Aaron S - 08-18-2016 quote: Gmail sucks for several reasons, such as the spam filters don't work, there is too many security hoops to jump through, they limit the size of files that you attach to your e-mail.
