Lava Flow Update /Earthquake Rocks Kilauea (8/24) - opihikao - 08-24-2016 Aloha mai, Tutu Pele! FYI: (*Snipped - More at link; Incl. pictures) http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/earthquake-rocks-kilauea-summit-lava-lake-within-view Pele is making her presence known today at the Kilauea summit. Spattering within the lava lake at Halema‘uma‘u crater became visible Tuesday and an earthquake at the summit rocked the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory today. The 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 1.8 miles at 12:17 p.m. It occurred just 3.2 miles southeast of the summit. That was followed by a 3.0-magnitude aftershock at 1:12 p.m. HVO spokeswoman Janet Babb said the quakes had no immediate effect on the summit lake, which still was producing visible spatter today. The lava lake was 66 feet below the crater rim as of this morning. This current flow, especially into the ocean, has provided many people with a once in a lifetime experience. To hike, or pay for a boat tour, or helicopter ride; all of this contributes to our visitor's knowledge (some of us,too), and also our economy. The only request should be to respect the cultural boundaries, that are ever present. We are all in for more fantastic experiences (ie. personal, video footage, pictures, etc.) with this flow, including changes to our aina. Be maka'ala, and safe, as you bring all of your ohana and friends to this experience. Don't forget, if you see an old, old woman, or a young, beautiful maiden hitchhiking, perhaps you would lend her a ride. [] That would be an experience, indeed (as Kupuna, and some here have told). Aloha ahiahi, all. Time to get these mo'opuna to rest. OMG, so much energy! [xx(] Rest well. (*Sharing what my mo'opuna are listening to while brushing teeth, and before saying prayers. They are Na Pua o Hawai'i, from Puna. Holei, by Dennis Pavao.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_vQX7pX7Dg Mahalo ke Akua, e na Aumakua, e na Kupuna. JMO.
