Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - Lodestone - 09-04-2016 Apparently due to Lester? RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - leilaniguy - 09-04-2016 Makuu? RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - Lodestone - 09-04-2016 quote:Oops, sorry. Got my vowels mixed up. Fixed, thanks! RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - ElysianWort - 09-04-2016 Hmm if you own the market: You work one or two days a week and rake in THOUSANDS. I think between 20$ and 30$ for each vendor. Plus the 1 dollar per car rake. I mean seriously. I want that job! Why wouldn't you hustle a bit and put the tents back up on a clear Saturday when you know the storm has pushed north? RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - ericlp - 09-04-2016 apparently, they are making too much money!! Anyone wanna buy some land and make a new market? ![]() RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - RJHampton - 09-04-2016 apparently, they are making too much money!! Maybe you should blame me and Ku'ulei S. for putting the Market there. We had a choice between Pahoa (where a remnant of the original market still stands today) or the Maku'u Farmers Association. We chose the Maku'u Farmers Association instead of Asha Malick who bought the parking lot in Pahoa and made us move in the first place. Although Asha begged us to come back we chose the present site which turned into the largest farmers market in the county if not the state. It has done nothing but grow and grow and grow. If you have complaints take it to Akua. After the Maku'u Farmers Association pay the kids for trash collection and a host of other things, what is left goes towards their building fund for a community center. You know the poster board with the picture of their dream? To intimate that these people are making ungodly amounts of money is ridiculous and ludicrous if not bordering on racism and bigotry. RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 09-04-2016 Maku'u Market is a great market. It costs $1 to get in. Can you think of anywhere else that provides support for local businesses at a rate of close to 100%? Anywhere else that keeps most of the money spent at their venue in the local Puna economy? - Be pleasant to inefficient workers; give them undeserved promotions. - Work slowly. - Refer all matters to committees for "further study and consideration. - Hold conferences. - Make travel as inconvenient as possible. - Haggle over precise wordings of communications. - Advocate “caution.” Be “reasonable” and avoid haste. We are lucky to dodge the hurricane bullet, time after time, but that doesn't mean that is a reason to get cocky, just be thankful. Maku'u is a great farmer's market but it has become too much tourist junk, the usual food and trinket stands. If you can do anything, you should try for a Wednesday evening farmer's produce only from 5 to 9 or a Saturday produce only market. It would be very convenient to buy weekly produce without having to wade through food and trinket stands. *Japanese tourist on bus through Pahoa, "Is this still America?* RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - RJHampton - 09-04-2016 Originally posted by pahoated If you can do anything, you should try for a Wednesday evening farmer's produce only from 5 to 9 or a Saturday produce only market. RE: Maku'u Farmer's Market Closed Today (Sept 4) - dayna - 09-04-2016 I totally agree I would LOVE a Saturday or Wednesday or ANYDAY market thats just produce. I cannot handle that market how it is currently set up. Too many people for me, too much noise, overwhelming number of booths, etc. I would shop weekly if they hosted a smaller produce only day. I live very near so it would be way better than shopping for produce at the grocery store. Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com |
