Can't sleep - Lin W - 01-16-2008 It took me a couple of nights to figure out why I keep waking up, feeling oddly uneasy -- it's the quiet. The temps have been dropping enough to shut down the coquis and the quiet wakes me up. It's spooky how many other little things you can hear without the frog noise. Who knew[?] too soon old, too late smart RE: Can't sleep - JerryCarr - 01-16-2008 I've noticed it, too, Lin. It's kinda spooky after you've gotten used to the noise. Cheers, Jerry RE: Can't sleep - Guest - 01-17-2008 Melatonin is something I have used in the past to help me sleep. Can be found at most grocery stores in the vitamin section. Take one 3mg pill and 1 hour later I'm out. I wake up in the morning feeling rested and unaffected by it. ----------------- Coming home soon! RE: Can't sleep - Rumi in Hawaii - 01-17-2008 Ditto on the melatonin....was taking Benedryl when I had trouble sleeping, but was so drowsy in the AM, but melatonin works great most of the time. Yeah, it IS quiet, isn't it? We have one little coqui that continues to chirp sometimes...wish I had chickens already to go eat the buggah! Sometimes just ONE coqui is worse than lots of 'em! But the cold weather has really quieted him down. 'Course, it's made me think about buying a tiny woodstove, too! Brrrr! Love sleeping under a quilt, tho. Katie Wherever you go, there you are. RE: Can't sleep - missydog1 - 01-17-2008 Melatonin works, but it shouldn't be used regularly, I read, because (IIRC) when you take the supplement the body stops producing natural melatonin. I know the topic wasn't about how to sleep but a comment on the unnerving quiet, but since it went that way ... Exposing yourself to bright light/sunshine signals the body to make melatonin, which is crucial for regulating sleep-wake cycles. I did stay up late the last two nights. Now I know why! [:p] |
