Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - terracore - 11-02-2016 There appears to be two service levels of "Parcel Select", parcel select lightweight, and parcel select ground. Parcel select lightweight is for items under 1 pound. It's slower than priority mail or first class but appears to ship by air. It's a little slower but around the same speed of "parcel pool" (international bridge). I recently have had some things heavier than 1 pound ship "parcel select ground" to Hawaii. These were initially transported via other carriers (fedex, UPS) until they reached California and were handed off to the USPS. The process to get to USPS took 3-4 days. After that, it took another 21 days for the item to get delivered. I did some research and "parcel select ground" to Hawaii looks like it takes the barge, similar to media mail. "USPS Parcel Select Ground What is Parcel Select Ground? Parcel Select Ground is a USPS mail class that offers ground delivery service at very low rates for large or heavy packages. When using this mail class, shipments can weigh up to 70lbs. and delivery ranges from 2–8 days. Rates are based on distance, weight and mailpiece dimensions." It isn't available to the public (you can't go to the post office and get this service), you need a USPS business account like through Pitney Bowes, stamps.com, be a big merchant, etc. Oddly, I have a business account and tried to calculate test shipment prices and the parcel select ground and priority mail prices from Hawaii to the mainland were exactly the same, but the delivery time frames were crazy different. Key takeaway: If you are ordering something from the madland and "USPS parcel select ground" is a shipping option, add a few weeks to the shipping time compared to priority or first class mail. RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - allensylves - 11-02-2016 I found out from the Keaau Post Office that a package that ships through Richmond, CA is coming by slow boat. Allen Finally in HPP RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - Lee M-S - 11-02-2016 I had a very lightweight package shipped from Target via UPS; first they mistakenly shipped it to New Jersey, then back to CA, onto the barge, then a few weeks later it got here. also packages shipping through "San Pablo, CA" are on the slow barge ><(((*< ... ><(("< ... ><('< ... >o> RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - shockwave rider - 11-02-2016 Beware the new hybrid UPS/USPS that looks like regular fast USPS but ends with the package being delivered by UPS. It becomes a real problem if you have a mailing address that is not your physical address, they get your package all the way to Hawaii and then send it back by turtle. The seller wouldn't reship until they got it back, and USPS couldn't find it in their system for 2 months. I anticipate a lot of Hawaii Christmas presents that are ordered by mainland family who don't understand why we need 2 different addresses on the order going far astray this year. RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - leilaniguy - 11-02-2016 Oh Gawd, more rotten fruit from Harry & David! RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - kalakoa - 11-02-2016 don't understand why we need 2 different addresses Almost as if Hawaii isn't a real place! RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - Kapoho Joe - 11-02-2016 quote: It's not! RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - Obie - 11-02-2016 You really don't need 2 addresses ! If Rider lived in my part of Kapoho she would only need one address ! Unless of course she is renting or doing some kind of trade and needs to maintain the other address for property tax purposes ! RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - MarkP - 11-02-2016 USPS does not deliver to my street address in Eden Roc. They give me a free PO Box because of that. It is an ordeal to determine ahead of time how my packages will be shipped so that I give the right address. RE: Be aware of USPS "parcel select" - Lee M-S - 11-03-2016 I use street address as first line, PO Box as second line. Post Office and FedEx/UPS all seem to be good with that. Only have a problem with when some computer program kicks out any address with the word "box". ><(((*< ... ><(("< ... ><('< ... >o> |
