buyer's remorse - kalakoa - 11-17-2016 http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/chung-regrets-bond-float-councilman-questions-rush-finish-parks-projects About half the $100M bond debt went to Parks & Rec, which has now spent nearly $1M on "change orders" and overtime (including flying workers in from Oahu, putting them up in hotels). The overtime is really important so that Kenoi can perform ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the gym and golf course. No roads, no "village commercial" upzoning... who needs a tax base, anyway? RE: buyer's remorse - Chunkster - 11-17-2016 With so many infrastructure deficits on this island, I never understood Kenoi's park building binge. It makes deeply cynical me wonder if the contractors and unions who benefited from all that borrowing were favored campaign contributors. RE: buyer's remorse - kalakoa - 11-17-2016 Kenoi's park building binge Permissible use of Ag-zoned land, no rights-of-way required... cheaper than roads? RE: buyer's remorse - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-17-2016 half the $100M bond debt went to Parks & Rec Think of the county jobs created! Dozens more positions filled by "workers" who clock an average of 20 minutes a day during an eight hour shift. In perpetuity. Now that's a legacy worth cutting a ribbon for. “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen RE: buyer's remorse - Tink - 11-17-2016 No where else does it take a week and 20 employees to mow a soccer field. Community begins with Aloha RE: buyer's remorse - Kapoho Joe - 11-17-2016 quote: Don't you mean kickback compatriots? All this hubbub about P-Cards when the real issue is the cash under the table and not the charges on the plastic. RE: buyer's remorse - bluesboy - 11-17-2016 is the access road to the new pahoa park a little pathetic? it's a very narrow 2 lanes, with no sidewalks. it takes a strange route through the park, and has quite a few 90 degree bends. the grass terraces are weird, too. why wouldn't they have natural swales (like the natural terrain) and a wide, meandering road with ample shoulders and wide sidewalks? it was 20 acres of open space... the transfer stations in glenwood and volcano also turned out rather bad. the ones in pahoa and keaau are pretty good, but not so much for the upper puna ones. also, what's up with the permanent orange cones at a newly designed and constructed transfer station? and why does new road work/paving sit months and years without final striping? and why are the roads in Hilo so bumpy? and what are they doing in the median between keaau and hilo? RE: buyer's remorse - fishenjim - 11-18-2016 with the rate the money was lent. I say the Banks are the winner. I see a bank manager position in Wild Billy's future. no crystal ball needed. RE: buyer's remorse - kalakoa - 11-18-2016 and why does new road work/paving sit months and years without final striping? I've always assumed there's just one striping machine, so they have to wait for it to get shipped over from Oahu. and what are they doing in the median between keaau and hilo? Preparing for an eventual Third Lane To Hilo for all the future residents of Shipman's New Keaau. RE: buyer's remorse - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-18-2016 I've always assumed there's just one striping machine Depending on the contractor, you're assumption may be correct. I saw a road striping/painting machine at Aloha Cargo a few years ago getting prepped for shipment to Kauai. I asked the sender why, and he said it doesn't get used that often, so they just ship it where it's needed, as necessary. “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen |
