United Airlines New Baggage Policy - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-17-2016 Do you ever take the red-eye on United out of Hilo to LA? Starting in January they have a few new regulations, or as United's PR department would like you to think of them, "benefits." The lowest fare will now only allow you one carry on bag that must fit under your seat. There's no longer room in the overhead compartment for that 20" high Samsonite Spinner bag that you bought specifically to meet their old luggage regulations, unless you would like to pay extra. In addition, no reserved seating until the day of your flight, and you're now in Group 5, the last to board. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/united-airlines-discount-fees-1.3855016 “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - macuu222 - 11-17-2016 Sounds like middle seats for the cheapest airfare. Not worth the $30.00 less in airfare for me. But if enough people buy the cheaper fare out of Hilo than I may be able to get some good seats for a change... RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - alaskyn66 - 11-17-2016 I think ill just stick with HA out of Kona..to the left coast. Pretty soon they will be charging you to use the crapper on these flights. RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-17-2016 Pretty soon they will be charging you to use the crapper Or maybe just the toilet paper. Since there's no room to bring a roll in your carry on, you'll be happy to buy it. At any price. Another "benefit." “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - 1voyager1 - 11-17-2016 Has no one noticed? Flying has reached the level of being herded into a cattle car. Makes one wonder if you might actually be headed for a concentration camp when they slam the door closed. RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - fishenjim - 11-18-2016 I've been on that flight 2 times, had the row of three seats to my self both times. Once on the mainland the two flights it takes to get to Pittssburgh are brutaly cramped and full. flying is no fun anymore. Figure i better enjoy my destination alot or just stay on B.I. RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - kalakoa - 11-18-2016 Flying has reached the level of being herded into a cattle car. I would gladly tolerate these conditions if they were on a direct flight from Hilo to SFO/OAK/SJC. RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - Durian Fiend - 11-18-2016 Wow, I had no idea there was a nonstop flight out of Hilo to the mainland. Too bad it's only to LAX, worst airport on the west coast. About the drawbacks of the new class of service, the good news is that it's cheaper right? Seems to me it may be difficult enforcing the carry on rule though. RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - Punatic007 - 11-19-2016 Just a side note to not reserve with China Air, where they like to refurbish outdated planes. Little did I know there would be ashtrays on each arm rest. I thought the plane was going to explode on takeoff and landing. You transit out of Beijing and often need to circle around till there's an opening in the smog for a sighted landing. You think I would have learned by now to never search for low airfares.... RE: United Airlines New Baggage Policy - leilanidude - 11-19-2016 Seems to me it may be difficult enforcing the carry on rule though. -- Not at all. They have already started part of the new policy by forcing anyone boarding in group 4 and 5 to surrender their 20" wheeled bag, at the gate. They tag it and take it straight to the cargo hold on the plane. You are then forced to get your luggage thru normal baggage claim at your final destination. |
