Orchidland 40th condition - eigoya - 11-25-2016 I have to pick Up a friend from 40th but was given directions from HWY11 (I'm coming from Pahoa). Is there any reason I shouldn't take Ochidland to 40th (it is a couple of miles down) RE: Orchidland 40th condition - terracore - 11-25-2016 Depends where on 40th they are. If they are on the Olaa side you'll want to turn on Pohaku (the one by Shower). If you can give a cross street I can advise further. ETA: 40th runs nearly from 11 near J. Hara to Ainaloa, it's a long-ass road. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - DoryGray - 11-25-2016 I own on 40th. The reason to go off 11 is pohaku goes to 40th On Pavement but 40th is almost 4 wheel drive before you get to Pavement again. When I go from HPP to my property I always go through Olaa. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - eigoya - 11-25-2016 It looks like it is closer to Olaf side, but unless it is impassable (I don't have a four wheel drive), id rather not backtrack. If I can't go at 8-12mph, it is probably faster to Keaau. Just curious. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - ericlp - 11-25-2016 dunno, if I'd want to chance going up shower to 40th, use to be a river.. esp, with all this rain we have been getting best to go 11 way good luck RE: Orchidland 40th condition - DoryGray - 11-25-2016 I have tried going the short way a couple of times thinking this time it will be different & it is - it's always worse. On pohaku Where the River Runs Through It, they have paved and channeled the river so it's not difficult to get over. The really rough part is from pohaku towards Olaa on 40th for about a mile. Good luck and report back. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - Durian Fiend - 11-26-2016 quote: Funny. My memory of this route, and it's been a few years but I've driven it 2 or 3 times, is that it's a rough, slow going affair even with a high clearance 4WD vehicle. The benefit for residents of this area is that the road conditions should keep traffic way down. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - Midnight Rambler - 11-26-2016 They've now paved the part where the river goes through (though we'll see how long it lasts - there's no culvert for it) to the junction with Pohaku, but beyond that it's still awful. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - kalakoa - 11-26-2016 Obviously we need County to take over these roads, so they can be maintained to the level of downtown Hilo, or maybe Post Office Road in Pahoa. RE: Orchidland 40th condition - My 2 cents - 11-26-2016 But what would we fight about then? |
