Share shipping container Portland Hilo - travissand - 01-03-2017 Updated January 16th/2017 : We are shipping a 40-foot container nere February 17th 2017 from Salem Oregon to Hawaiian Ocean View Estates on the big island. We will probably use 2/3rds the container. We are looking for someone to purchase the rest of the space from us. If we share the cost equally should cost you around $1,425 plus whatever Trucking cost you if you want to have it delivered to your loading and unloading locations. It's 40 feet long so if each foot was $142 it would equal 5700. So $142.5 X 10feet The Shipping container may ship out of Rainier or Seattle. It may ship to Hilo or Kona. Either the way costs about the same for us. What originating and destination port would benefit you? If I can't find anyone to share I may be filling the extra space with a highly valued item that I could resell here on the big island. Anyone have ideas on what that item should be? Please give me a call and leave a voicemail if I don't answer. As for high priced items, ammo comes to mind. Expensive on island and nearly nobody ships here. Another high-priced item is the container itself. If it were me I'd buy a 20' sea worthy high cube and ship my stuff in that so I'd have the container for storage when I got here. 20' high cubes are nearly impossible to find here and many of them are 40' high cubes that were cut in half and doors added, making them the same cost as the 40' ones (at least that was the case in 2011 when I was shopping for one). If you didn't want the container later, you could possibly sell it. They were going for about 3-5k when I was shopping depending on age and condition. If you could buy one for less than that it could potentially subsidize your shipping cost. RE: Share shipping container Portland Hilo - descodave - 01-04-2017 My husband suggests Western Red Cedar! RE: Share shipping container Portland Hilo - travissand - 01-16-2017 Thanks for your suggestions. I particularly like the ammo idea because it won't take up much space and must be shipped by ground. I updated the text. We are now moving the container sooner and there's only 10 feet or less left available for large items RE: Share shipping container Portland Hilo - travissand - 01-16-2017 Where is the city data Forum you speak of? quote: RE: Share shipping container Portland Hilo - HI_Someday - 01-17-2017 quote: http://www.city-data.com/forum/big-island/ |
