Avocado tree strength??? - onrway - 01-21-2017
In the yard of the home we purchased is a very large Avocado tree. The people we purchased from said it did not produce very good avos. It is a beautiful tree and provides nice shade. My question is the strength of the wood. Would a Avocado tree be strong enough to support a tree house?

I wouldn't trust it. I've had some big avocado branches come down. During tropical storm Iselle, a huge chunk of my neighbor's avocado tree toppled over. I don't think there are many tropical trees that have that strong of wood, for treehouse purposes anyway.

Avocado wood is very soft. I cut down a mature tree with a battery powered ryobi reciprocating saw with a bad battery... when the battery died 1/4 way through I finished the remaining 3/4 with a machete and it didn't even take very long.

Agree with previous. Hard woods are best for tree houses. I did see some cool bamboo structures highlighted somewhere. (Sorry, I'm not the best with linking).
