The Latest From OHA - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-03-2017

OHA now has their third chairperson in two months, the result of infighting which includes but is not limited to:

Mismanagement,
Misspending
Audits
Lawsuits and/or "injuctive relief"
$50,000 sexual harassment settlement
Contract disputes

This is what OHA's website says their focus is:
To improve the conditions of Native Hawaiians, we are focused on six key strategic priorities:
Aina
Culture
Economic Self-Sufficiency
Education
Governance
Health

And yet, no one has come forward to question why OHA is not following their own rules, regulations, and priorities.

There was also a scathing audio report on HPR this morning, which described the OHA dysfunction as a soap opera filled with personal attacks, backstabbing, and juvenile-like squabbling between board members. If they print it for their website I'll provide a link if/when available.

why OHA is not following their own rules, regulations, and priorities

Clearly, OHA is doing things "in the correct way", no need question or criticize.

Just like County, or HPP.

kalakoa:
Makes a citizen of the USA wonder about what a Sovereign Hawaiian entity or nation would mean maybe? No confidence here.

I voted for Keli'i Akina CEO of Hawaii Grassroots Institute. Hopefully can live up to his principles.

tada:
I hope so too.
Very much.

I don't know much about OHA. Though maybe they can spread the money around to more of the beneficiaries.[?]

" . . . maybe they can spread the money around to more of the beneficiaries."

Oh, they're spreading money around already. Only it's to their well connected friends and contractors. Look up Sandwich Isles Telcom for an example.

The mismanaged and incompetent OHA/DHHL bureaucracy is a very strong argument against any version of a sovereign Hawaiian entity because they have made sure that they will be intimately involved in whatever form it may take. The whole mess needs to be abolished, and I'm not sure there is any point in replacing it unless everyone who had anything to do with the current version is excluded.

Absolutely. These 2 corrupt organizations get enough tax money every year to bring every real Hawaiian out of poverty. But they don't care.

At least OHA is no longer receiving any funds from the TMT, at least for the time being.

Please note that despite this, the TMT is still funding educational projects on the Big Island.
