Island Air doubling inter-island flights by May - macuu222 - 02-04-2017 They are planning to double the amount of flights to the cities they currently serve. That will keep inter-island airfares in check except for Hilo. I guess they figure that people from Hilo can always drive over to Kona if they're looking for low airfares. http://www.staradvertiser.com/2017/02/03/business/business-breaking/island-air-nearly-doubling-interisland-service/ RE: Island Air doubling inter-island flights by May - alaskyn66 - 02-04-2017 Not enough demand for hilo most likely... but if enough people raise a stink it could happen. If I lived on this side and worked on kona side I would fly over taking the bus or driving in a heart beat. RE: Island Air doubling inter-island flights by May - Chunkster - 02-04-2017 Hawaiian has enough demand to make about a dozen flights a day pay off. I think Island Air may be temporarily put off by the cost of personnel and equipment (even if contracted/leased) needed to open a new operational station. All the increased service in this latest expansion announcement was to existing stations.
