Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - Obie - 02-15-2017 The current construction on highway 130 would have been completed along with the main widening if only HPP would have given the ok back in 2013. http://hoohiki.courts.hawaii.gov/#/case?caseId=3CC131000635 RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-15-2017 Blame HPP I would contend that even had HPP attended to their part of the project in a timely manner, the state would have dragged out their studies, planning, surveying, site prep so that in the end we'd be right about where we are now. And let's give some credit to the county, HELCO, Hawaiian Telcom, and the former Time Warner who could also have contributed to delays as well. Credit where credit is due. No child will ever again doubt they could grow up and someday become president of the United States RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - kalakoa - 02-15-2017 had HPP attended to their part of the project in a timely manner They did exactly this: think of it as "sharing" their "road pain". Feeling "blessed" yet? RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-15-2017 "road pain" I can't help but think Albert Einstein may have had future HPP in mind as he peered from mid 20th century North America through the space-time continuum split momentarily by a passing gravity wave: "No worthy problem is ever solved in the plane of it's original conception." Considering the worthy problem of Big Island road construction projects, we can anticipate a pretty great highway when completed. No child will ever again doubt they could grow up and someday become president of the United States RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - kalakoa - 02-15-2017 we can anticipate a pretty great highway when completed But our grandchildren will have flying cars by then. RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-15-2017 our grandchildren will have flying cars Spoiled brats: "When I was your age kids... did you know construction crews blocked traffic to repair and expand the highways, causing lengthy delays..." "Is that old man talking about driving on the ground again? C'mon. Let's buzz on out-a-here." No child will ever again doubt they could grow up and someday become president of the United States RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - Chunkster - 02-15-2017 Obie has started an interesting discussion, but the HPPOA does not own the property in question and had no legal right to give it to the state. The way the road and easement ownership in Increment 1 of HPP was set up, the individual owners have a tiny individual ownership stake in the patch the state needed. I know because the deed to my house said so. I was even at a public meeting where a really clueless group of DOT officials flew to Hilo, drove to HPP, and were given these facts. The board at the time even had a legal opinion in hand and told the DOT guys that they should initiate condemnation proceedings at once if they wanted to proceed with the project on a timely basis. The DOT guys got a befuddled look (imagine that) and went back to Honolulu, and I think it was a couple of years later (2013) that the condemnation suit was filed. So whatever delay this whole situation produced was not HPP's fault . . . that time, anyway. It's just another example of the screwed up way the whole thing was allowed to be set up. RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - kalakoa - 02-15-2017 individual owners have a tiny individual ownership stake in the patch the state needed State should have filed a "quiet title" lawsuit. Isn't that how it's done here? RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - TomK - 02-15-2017 Obie - I understand your frustration, but please remember not everyone who lives in HPP is the same. Being tarred with the same brush as some other residents of HPP is not fun to see. There are many of us who enjoy living here, and if we need to vent about something, do it in a way that doesn't end up in a flame war on Punaweb. RE: Stuck in Traffic on 130 ?Blame HPP - Obie - 02-16-2017 Sorry Tom.I realize there are a lot of good people in HPP. I was frustrated because I offered info on how to obtain mailboxes and a small group wants to vent about the HPP board. My post though is only intended for people who don't live in HPP. I'm sure you will understand. |
