What to bring in a container? - BigEyePuna - 03-21-2017

I will be shipping a 40' container at the end of next month and don't have enough to fill it. I have to ship it because I'm moving with items for my business that cannot be replaced (at least not for a more cost effective means than shipping what I have). I've read on other forums that we should fill the rest of the container with Ikea stuff and sell it there. Does that sound feasible? What would you fill extra space with?

we have paid cubic ft fees to ship mainland items from people that have room... so there is that (the shippers of one of the containers we used frequently fils all remaining sauce with "2 buck chuck" from Trader joes... but I am pretty sure he pretty much fills it...

That said, a listing here or on craigslist honolulu (and your home) may get some of the space filled at a recoup for you...

Here is a current ad from Oakland:

I know of some here that would love to know a container is being shipped (if it is near to what they want shipped)
infact, there is this thread with someone looking for space in a container!

Where are you shipping from?

Thanks Carey, will look into it.

Shipping from southern Colorado (near Colorado Springs but up in the mountains).

I would hope that anyone who has lived here any amount of time would avoid buying IKEA furniture -- it does not hold up in the humidity. I like the idea of 2 buck Chuck (which was a bit more than 2 bucks when I left the mainland a year ago). I've spoken to more than one person who said what they miss about the mainland is TJ's. However, I don't know if you may get in trouble for selling wine without a liquor license. But other TJ's items could be awesome. When my sister asked if there was anything she could send me for my B-Day that I could not get here, I immediately said, 'Trader Joe's hot sauce!'

Things I noticed being expensive here are hardware (nuts, bolts, screws, etc) and mattresses. It's hard to advise, since you don't list what you plan on doing once you move.

A small trailer.

One option is to bring in a 20' container instead of a 40'.

Some types of ammo are hard to get here and can't be affordably shipped any other way.

A small trailer for sure, maybe a couple of them. Plywood is expensive here, actually any kind of wood. Good furniture is hard to find here.

Careful with the ammo. Neither Matson or Pasha will ship ammo. (UPS will, but that does not address the question.)

My husband suggests drywall.

(edited to add drywall. rr)
