aloha - question has anyone taken the bus from Hilo to Kona? Thinking about doing so as a different type of overnight trip to the other side.
How long does the trip take from Hilo and it does stop on Ali'i drive is it close to the strip so we could get a hotel for a night and then catch the bus back the next day?
I found the schedule online but having a bit of a time trying to understand the times.. really does not state what time you actually arrive in Kona. any input would be appreciated.

I have taken them...
The 3:40am leaving from Bayfront Soccer fields parking bus shelter & the 1:30pm bus leaving Mo`oheaau both stop on Ali`i...the early morning bus also does a HPA loop & the Waikoloa Resorts...so is a long bus (and ridden that early morning route in the ol`yellow HeleOn bus...LOOONNGGG ride!- bring sweatshirt!) & arrives on Ali`i around 6:35am
the 1:30pm bus arrives around 4:30pm
You can also take the 9:15am bus leaving Mo`oheau, ask for an intra-Kona transfer, get off at Kmart around 11:45am & get on the Intra-Kona bus to Ali`i if you are lucky, the 12noon bus from Kmart arriving at Ali`i around 1:02pm, or the 1:45pm Kmart bus to Ali`i around 2:37pm

Mahalo Carey - So if we took the 9:15 Mo' oheau and got the transfer how long would you say the ride would be? What I mean is what time about would we arrive at Walmart about>
My sister is here visiting for a couple weeks from Arkansas so I thought it may be fun to do something different out of the norm and spend a night over there and ride the bus back the next day.
We only have one vehicle and would not want to leave hubby without a vehicle nor would we want to put the miles on our rig. Thus I thought maybe the bus would be a good alternative.

If you can, get an east window on the way over (passenger, not drivers side of bus) that way you get a really high up view over the gulches & out over the ocean on the Hamakua & Kona sides
I usually take the Puna bus in & get a transfer to ride on the the Kona bus. If you get the 10 ride tickets...the fare is $1.50 each way.... so can`t beat it & you can take bicycles ($1 per bike additional per ride) large packages & excess bags also need an additional $1, so keep you carryon to a daypack type size if possible...
