Puna pitchfork repair - terracore - 05-06-2017

Cheap Chinese wood handle broke on pitchfork. The fork itself seemed in pretty good shape so didn't want to buy a new one. Checked out the replacement handles at Home Depot and couldn't justify spending over $10 on another cheap handle and they don't seem to sell fiberglass ones, so I left empty handed.

Got home and noticed that the receiver for the handle was just over 1" so I dug out the remainder of the handle with a pocketknife and found an old piece of 1" galvanized steel electrical conduit that was conveniently already handle length. Put the fork in the ground and drove the conduit into the tapered receiver using a fence post driver. Good as new, and didn't cost me anything.

Going to visit the county about the tax increases?

I was thinking the same thing. A metal handle wouldn't catch fire, so with this modification, it could double as a torch.

Time for the villagers to storm the castle and purge the monster.

Even the HD plastic handled rakes and shovels have a wood tip that inserts into the metal working end. It only takes a year or two for them to rot out. I am bad about leaving them out to weather. I have several handle-less tools laying around hoping to figure out a way to put them back to use. I'll give your idea a try. Thanks.

(raises hand) I'm the guilty party in the marriage that leaves the tools out to rot in the weather.

Thankfully terracore came up with this solution. Maybe it'll save some $$.
