Cat's Eye😒 - descodave - 05-11-2017 We have a beautiful & sweet outdoor (just inside for loving on my lap at times) Siamese cat whose about 4 years old; Anyway, she's been keeping 1 eye closed alot lately (about 2 wks.now) but doesn't seem to have any pain when we press around her eye (very little discharge either) - so...not sure if we should head to the Vet or? Any suggestions? Thanks so much! RE: Cat's Eye😒 - TomK - 05-11-2017 Sorry to hear this. If I were you I'd head to the vet. I know it'll cost money but you'll be paying for someone trained to diagnose and hopefully fix the problem, whatever it is. If you don't currently have a vet, I can recommend Dr. Rodrigues at Aloha Vet in Hilo, he's excellent and has a specialty in felines. http://www.alohavetcenter.com/ RE: Cat's Eye😒 - Guest - 05-11-2017 descodave, sorry to hear this as well. Do you have fire ants around your place? Little Fire ants have been known to cause eye irritation and even blindness to many Puna pets of late. Pretty easy to find out if you have these fire ants, just place a few peanut butter or honey Popsicle sticks in the ground around the areas outside that your cat likes to hangout. In less than an hour the fire ants if there are any will start making themselves known. RE: Cat's Eye😒 - JG-HPP - 05-11-2017 It really sounds like little red fire ants. All our cats are troubled by them. The eyes can turn milky, but the cats seem to be able to see just fine. According to vet there is no cure. I find that gentle rubbing of the closed eye gives some relief to the poor guys. RE: Cat's Eye😒 - Pilgrim - 05-12-2017 Sorry to hear about your cat friend. I'd say bite the bullet and go into the vet. They can see if there is any damage and will probably give you terramycin antibiotic and perhaps other medicine to help it heal as quickly as possible. My dear cat's eye was injured in a cat fight and it did heal but led to glaucoma in that eye later on. I had to give him regular medication and he eventually went blind in that eye. My vet said eye stuff is best dealt with as quickly as possible for the best outcomes. I second Dr. Rodriguez at Aloha vet. RE: Cat's Eye😒 - terracore - 05-12-2017 Second everybody's recommendation that the vet should be the first option. But: Our dog got a pus eye and after two different vets and several medications (half of which made it worse) we fixed it ourselves with this: https://www.amazon.com/Terramycin-Ophthalmic-Ointment-1-8-Ounce/dp/B00063KGUK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1494629653&sr=8-4&keywords=polysporin+eye+drops&linkCode=ll1&tag=pw016-20&linkId=9b596b00f1239ad93190bbcfcab9719b RE: Cat's Eye😒 - mermaid53 - 05-12-2017 My cat really hates car rides and meows angrily the whole trip so a trip to Hilo would be out of the question. We really like Kilauea Vet in Keaau. Dr Versluys or Dr "V" is very reasonably priced and she and her staff are very attentive, knowledgeable and compassionate. I concur, eye issues need to be handled promptly. Good luck w/your kittie. RE: Cat's Eye😒 - d96778 - 05-12-2017 We also Dr. V in Keanu. Really like the entire staff there. Dee RE: Cat's Eye😒 - sistersue - 05-13-2017 One of my Australian Cattle Dogs is almost blind from fire ant stings. His eyes are white. Dr. Seske took one look at him and said "This is not cataracs - it's fire ant stings". My other dogs are okay except two of them have a small white patch in one eye. There are no fire ants near my house but now I'll have to spray the whole fenced acre. [] RE: Cat's Eye😒 - TomK - 05-14-2017 descodave - any updates? |
