The pipe crack has also led the Kim administration to look into replacing the aging infrastructure, something that could cost millions of dollars.

"The burden now comes, where do you find the money?" Kim asked. "First thing we'll look for is grants."

For all the debt Kenoi took out, we should have gotten some infrastructure, would have been a better investment than more parks.

Users are the ones who should pay. Why should people who provide their own sewage treatment have to pay for those in Hilo?

Poor, underserved, Kona town dwellers depend on the County . We don't.

Poor, underserved, Kona town dwellers

Meaning: tourists? The picture in the paper shows a crew working in front of a hotel...

Kailua Bay is frequented by tourists and residents who all depend on sewage being contained.

Personally, I'm glad we are self reliant here. I trust myself for maintainance of pipes.

Here's the video where Harry was talking about the problem and budget issues.

“If we don’t have a (sewage) system that is the best we can afford,” Kim stated, “what good is a nice park, (or) nice roads, or anything, if you are polluted.”

The mayor’s comments were made during a meeting of the Keaukaha Action Network, organized by Terri Napeahi, who said she has concerns about accounts of local families getting sick after swimming along the shore. Napeahi has been working to raise awareness over the numerous toxicity issues facing the Keaukaha / Panaewa communities.
