TMT isn't the only project held up by permits, contested case hearings, NIMBYs, etc:

Seems like a broader tax base would mean fewer tax increases, yet somehow any project which might create more tax revenue is always met with additional spending on contested case hearings, legal defense, etc. As a side effect, limited housing stock drives prices ever higher.

It's obviously intentional, but doesn't really seem to serve the public.

The powers that be in Hawaii County have accepted that they cannot stop progress but that they can slow it down.

There is an influential industry that is based on 6% of each sale. The leaders have enough money that they are not trying for more turnover, just the benefit of more income from each turnover.
