They probably ran out of fuel. If they pumped some diesel at the Orchidland gas station with the $3.27 they had in their pocket, they'd only have managed another 2 miles down the road anyway. Probably saved the money for chips.

The police have been doing a pretty good job of ignoring reports of theft from the public they swore to protect, they may have a more difficult time ignoring reports of theft from other segments of county government.
