Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - kalakoa - 07-28-2017

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/construction-start-next-week-puna-kai-project

Construction was originally slated to begin in March, but permit delays pushed the time frame to June...

Wasn't the original SUP granted in 2008?

Anchor tenant Malama Market ... should still be set to open a 35,000-square-foot grocery store in the shopping center by summer 2018

Gentlepeople, place your bets...

Just don't put anything that resembles a v-shaped lava berm along the back of the property. Otherwise, rocks may start rolling and we'll have hearings at least until summer 2018.

Four people are in a room and seven leave. How many have to enter again before it's empty?

Can we contest this? Were all environmental and cultural impact studies done properly? Paperwork all filed properly? No changes since then? Terms of the original SUP met in the time allowed? Has anyone prayed on the property, or moved rocks in a way not readily identified? Have all the bugs been counted and categorized? How much trash and oil from customers will destroy the aina and enter our water table?

I am disgusted by the whole dirty capitalist venture. But I did see that there is space for a movie theater? Any chance for a Buffalo Wild Wings?

We need to do everything we can to get the Foodland corporate heads who have also created Sack N Save and now Malama Mart to treat Malama Mart customers to the same benefits they give Foodland and SNS shoppers! Not only are MM's prices considerably higher than at FL and SNS but MM shoppers don't get to use Maika'i cards or have senior shopping prices on Thursdays!

Now is the time to speak up! A petition drive, anyone???[Sad!]

No appeals required: land is pre-desecrated (was a rock yard), and owned by the "right people".

It will still take several more years, but that's just County Building/Planning.

Favorite line from the article -- this one's for you, Rob:

zoning requires wooden doors and windows at the Puna Kai shopping center, to maintain Pahoa's historic look. But he's concerned that wood will not last long...

MM's prices considerably higher

Never forget that you chose to live in "the country". This is all on you.

Keep prices high. If you cannot afford it - try Vegas.

No Hawaiian is gonna protest a mcdonald's. There's where TMT failed. If they would have put a Mc'D's on top of Mauna Kea, it would have been built!

GUARANTEED!

All joking aside, I once saw a map with the movie theater on it, but I googled the new shopping center with three map (results) and none show a movie house. Is it really going to have a theater? That would be nice for the community. I think the movie theater was just someone just mucking around with photoshop, being passed around on facebook.

So when is walmart moving in? Big Grin

If you cannot afford it - try Vegas.

At least Vegas has weed.
