Property tax bills - DTisme - 07-28-2017

A letter to the editor today from someone in Keaau says his property tax bill doubled this year. Ours actually went down a bit, and our vacant lot tax bill stayed the same. Curious what others are finding they owe this year. Higher? Lower? Same?

Mine went up 1500%...

RE: Property tax bills - DTisme - 07-28-2017

1500%? That would make a $500 bill $7500. What gives?

RE: Property tax bills - bystander - 07-28-2017

A friend of mine had his bill more than quadruple. That's because they detected an unpermitted structure on his property.

they detected an unpermitted structure

Correct: unpermitted structures are still assessed and taxed -- if and when County RPT feels like it -- which brings us back around to "selective enforcement".

My vacant lot tax doubled.

My fern forest lot doubled. 250 a year for a vacant lot.

House in Beaches went up a bit. Gotta par for the rail! According to kim. If you didn't get hit this year, just wait till next year. Apparently, people don't mind paying for Oahu's rail.

Mine doubled for my unimproved lots even though my assessed value went down. Called the County - my unimproved lots are charged at the minimum rate and the Council approved raising the minimum rate as it has been the same for 30 years. No biggie.

yes, i get so tired of hearing the tiny increase. those that paid minimum tax went up 100%. from 100 to 200. so you can figure it out, a lot that is worth 3000 is paying the same almost as a lot that is worth 30,000. even the elderly with homeowners exemption were not spared. this was the biggest tax increase in several years.. we are all pawns of honolulu..

Mine (elderly w/homeowners exemption) doubled. This tax does NOT come from HNL but Hilo! The state has no real property tax .... YET.
