Here is what I think is correct. Please advise if not and elaborate as needed.
1) Very difficult to dig up all round nodes that the shoots come from. Even if plants above are repeatedly cut, nodes [roots are below] can live for 2-3 years before they stop re-sprouting (but each time will be weaker so process does get easier at time goes on.)
Do not cut at ground level but instead pull on shoot and try to cut off the nodes. (I use hand saw and go 3-4 inches down). (Only works in soft soil.) There are often 8-10 nodes--nodes grow parallel to the ground level, but it appears that shoots only resprout at the far end so if you cut last 2-3 nodes, that is much better than simply cutting at ground level. (Anyone know, will the other older nodes resprout then? Do you have to get them all?)
2) Option 2: There is a specific poison for applying to cut shoots at ground level (Cimarron Plus?) Several drops on each cut shoot. Will kill root. (?) (At one property the owner does not want to use poison so we are doing method 1 here.)
3) If you clear an area of ginger but adjacent property has ginger, you will repeatedly get new sprouts. They are easy to pull up (with root) when small, but obviously this is a never-ended situation.
I have been laying down cut hapuu fronds; this appears to prevent seeds from taking root (and also acts as great suppression for grass.) But time-consuming and need more fronds.
4) Are there herbicides (Cimarron Plus?) that work sprayed on the leaves?

Have you considered trialing milestone? I've found it to be great for killing invasive trees, and it doesn't kill grass which for my livestock is good.

Milestone® specialty herbicide. Thank you, I'll read up on it. But one person is adamant that they do not want any herbicides on their property so we have to do it the hard way.

I use milestone sparingly, a little goes a LONG way, and prefer it over other types of herbicides. I know none of them are "good" but this one is at least "safe" to use in pasture for meat producing animals. So I figure there is that...

Have you sprayed it on ginger leaves and found it effective? Or is it used by putting drops on the cut shoots?

Maybe horticultural vinegar?
Those herbicides are so toxic. Not just to plants.
Even roundup which so many people in the past have claimed to be safe to use has now been proven to cause cancer.
In fact I seem to remember someone from punaweb saying the vinegar is just as toxic as roundup. Wrong. Vinegar wont cause cancer.
Milestone is way more potent than roundup. Potential to cause neurological damage if precise care isn't taken. I know some tree trimmers and have heard some scary stories.
If not vinegar for the ginger removal how about a controlled burn? I wonder if enough heat will kill the ginger roots in an area?

vinegar actually doesnt kill the entire plant often... vinegar wont move through the plant to kill the root, like chemical sprays will do..... most all weeds with taproots will grow right back...

also very important, repeated vinegar use WILL contaminates the soil for a LONGTIME... roundup doesnt AT ALL.. roundup is made EXACTLY to kill plants.. why use something inferior like vinegar?? especially when roundup doesnt hurt people at all.. CANCER LOL ya right... its been available for over 45 yrs now, and was invented 67 yrs ago... fyi E.W. we NOW live to be 81 yrs old on average.. the yr before Monsanto became a company, the ave life expectancy was 31 yrs old... SO, weve gained fifty yrs of life during Monsanto's lifetime.. think about it... CANCER?? lol

you can plant a seedling in the same soil the following day after spraying roundup... try that w/ vinegar, cooking oil, bleach, salt water, gasoline, etc...
ps burning doesnt work on plants w/ underground Rhizomes...

I'm retired, something I do in my spare time. His place is real cool, both in beauty and temperature. (Have far less tolerance for sea-level heat now)
Trying to start clearing back of his lot. Ira is not big on poison. Yea have been talking to coworker about it but am seeking new ways to defeat/suppress the huge amount of ginger other than poison.
Do you have any responses to my top questions?

Well bananahead; Lawsuits have just recently started where people exposed to roundup and who now have cancer are winning cases. There is a link. There is new scientific research and mounting evidence of the link. My point was it is harmful to other living beings in the long run. Cancer causing. I wasn't saying that vinegar leaves the soil more fertile.
You go on ahead and support Monsanto and use all the harmful chemicals you want on your bananas and other plants. The way you worded it sounds like an ad. Maybe you can get some free roundup sent to you if you disclose your defense of the stuff to the big wig chemical guys.

Wonder if salt will kill it. I tried growing it here near the ocean and it died.
