No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - terracore - 08-27-2017 I'm looking for a Ryobi chainsaw but HD only sells them bundled with a battery and charger. I don't need those. I'm looking for the model that is chainsaw only. HD sells them online but won't ship them to Hawaii. Neither will the amazon merchants. For some reason HD won't ship to store either. https://www.amazon.com/Ryobi-18-Volt-Lithium-Cordless-Chainsaw/dp/B01AB13XKG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1503865018&sr=8-8&keywords=ryobi+chainsaw&linkCode=ll1&tag=pw016-20&linkId=9301dd2f8a9af5c7da63f9d6fd61119a RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - kalakoa - 08-27-2017 Good example of the "Hawaii Compromise" -- it's not about what you want or need, it's always about what you can actually get. Consider yourself lucky that it's on the shelf at all. In this case, shipping (from an eBay vendor who will ship) or forwarding (from a friend with a mainland address) will probably cost more than the HD retail bundle. (The new batteries are nice, and the chargers do fail eventually.) That said ... if you manage to get one of these, they're compatible with the Y40/0.43 10" chain, available at HD. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - terracore - 08-27-2017 If I can't find another option I came to the same conclusion. Or optionally, I can sell the extra battery and charger on eBay and recoup the price difference. I think the lithium ion charger is backwards compatible with my bootleg Ni-MH battery packs but my old Ryobi charger won't charge the Li-On batteries. Thanks for the tip on the chain. I'm sick of struggling to start the gas chainsaw and most of the time it's overkill for what I'm doing anyway. And as I get older my shoulders want me to give the machete a rest sometimes. ETA: These are the bootleg batteries I was referring to. They really are amazing though you have to watch out for overheating if you're drilling into lava rock etc: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06VWK59H1/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=pw016-20&linkId=8cbcd1973c01bf5e6cb63fbdc8815a7d RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - mikewj - 08-27-2017 Terracore - I bought one of those saws a year or so ago. From HD, without the charger/battery. Went in to the store and ordered it. It was delivered to their SoCal warehouse, then shipped here with their regular orders. Had to pay Calif tax, but it was a reasonable solution. Hope this helps. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - terracore - 08-27-2017 How do you like the saw? RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - kalakoa - 08-27-2017 Most likely Amazon has misclassified the item; this can sometimes be fixed by clicking "report incorrect product information" and selecting "other details", "shipping/availability". Case in point: Amazon will gladly ship the 10" Black and Decker battery-powered chainsaw (with or without battery) to Hawaii, so the problem isn't "chainsaw" or "Hawaii". https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SSLE0QS/ RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - Mac2017 - 08-27-2017 Amazon prime......best deal in the world when you you need to get around the "Hawaii compromise" lol. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - mikewj - 08-27-2017 Terracore: Pretty good for light jobs. Battery life is good, recharges fairly quickly. On bigger cuts I find it necessary to cut a wedge, then finish off the cut. This prevents the blade from binding. Lightweight and easy to handle. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - bystander - 08-27-2017 quote: I can affirm this since I just received this same exact saw. Got it on Amazon Warehouse deals for $76 with battery. Funny thing is this saw actually costs a bit more WITHOUT the battery and charger. I actually got this saw to cut slits in albizia trees to add the herbicide discussed in another thread. For this purpose it's good. I never tried cutting anything else yet. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - ElysianWort - 08-27-2017 Terracore: you say you're sick of trying to pull-start your chainsaw and the jobs aren't that big anyhow? I have a slew of Ryobi cordless tools and already have batteries so I recently added for about $70 the battery powered reciprocating saw. There are special blades you can buy, (look like bow-saw blade), (cheap), they slice right through wai'wi guava as thick as my upper arm or bigger. It's light and easy to use. I mainly use it for dirty jobs when I'm worried about dulling my chainsaw blade. Like on large roots. Sometimes rocks and things get stuck up in there. Using the chainsaw on a job like that can create expensive problems. Those sawz-all blades are pretty sturdy and cheap. |
