When I see those civil defense messages about a small EQ in Hawaii and that there is no tsunami threat (and then repeats it!), I feel like tearing my hair out. A 7.9-moment mag EQ is generally needed to create a threatening Pacific-wide tsunami and this was up there, but suspect its precise location and the type of EQ ended up with no threat here, but only until the DART buoys recorded potential waves. Can't say the same for the west coast of Mexico though... |
