ShipmanBeach News - eigoya - 09-27-2017

OK, so we were returning from a gorgeous late afternoon at a nearly deserted Shipman beach when a completely nude walker passed us on the trail. First my husband said, "that reminds me, get some chipolatas at the store". I'm sure that went by anyone who could have heard (for full effect, say Vienna sausage next time), but he thought it was illegal to walk naked. I said the cops would be busy at Kehena each weekend if that were the case.
Then, we get back to parking lot and half a dozen fire and rescue workers were there, strangely with climbing gear(ropes, calipers). I said the rock wall is not that high, but does this have to do with the nudist?
Any information on an odd Tuesday out, even by Puna standards, greatly appreciated....

Gotta love living in Puna!

Earlier in the day yesterday I saw the coast guard helicopter flying up and down along Shipman and Kaloli Pt. Maybe they found what they were looking for. I haven't heard anything about it.

When I lived in Hawaiian acres, the lawn mower guy used to mow our 3 acres "au naturale", got buzzed by green harvest a few times for their own bizarre reasons.. Then, when I lived in Leilani, I had a roommate who liked to work in the yard, letting it all hang out. It's Puna after all.

My understanding of the nudity law is that mere nudity isn't illegal, but nudity that is likely to cause affront or done specifically to cause affront is illegal. So nudity at Kehena Beach, where many are naked, would be less likely to cause affront than, say, nudity in the Target parking lot. Nudity on a remote path on private property would definitely be a gray area. Nudity in State parks is, however, expressly illegal under park regulations.
