"On February 20, 2018 at about 1130 hours, police received a report of a social media posting from a male party, the posting made a reference to "shooting up local schools". Investigation into this posting reveal it was posted by a 17 year old male juvenile.
On February 20, 2018, at about 7:00pm, the suspect was taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threatening in the Second Degree. The juvenile was subsequently release to his parent due to not qualifying for further detention.
Although the posting did not contain a specific school, the juvenile was found to be connected with Konawaena High School. As a result police will have a greater presence at Konawaena School on February 21st."

Please, no debate about gun laws, we've done that enough, just wondering why this has spread to Hawaii now.

It's happening all over the country, the shooting in Florida is likely the cause.
Great to live in a state where mass shootings are almost unheard of.

As far as I can tell, the media generally goes out of their way to portray the perpetrators as troubled, confused, and mentally unstable in some way, but copycat actors seems to miss all that. They don't envision the headline they'll create with their senseless plans as HAWAII CRAZY PERSON SHOOTS UP SCHOOL, they just think they'll be famous and in some small way will have participated in an action, maybe even a movement, that prints their name in the paper.
Good attention, bad attention, sadly, as Rob pointed out, when you're young any idea seems like a good way to get some attention. Even in Hawaii.

My suspicion is that stuff like this was always happening but is now more newsworthy. I don't mean the actual shootings. I mean talk like this that is newsworthy in light of actual events.

Both Pahoa & Keaau High school have been involved in potential threats today....
I know parents at both high schools were having to decide if they will allow their child to stay in school this morning, during our pool aerobics class....
All I can say is, it is a tough situation that we are now having to consider....... all over our country....

Maybe a general strike, a full on national walk out, from all schools, continued until congress bans all assault guns (at a minimum) is in order.

I seem to remember a time when schools were a place to go for safety (where I grew up, schools were tornado shelters... & even here, most of our storm shelters are...schools)
