This is a Civil Defense hazardous weather message for Friday, April 27 at 1 PM.
The National Weather Service forecasts heavy rain, flash flooding, high surf, and the possibility of thunderstorms for Hawaii Island starting Saturday.
Flash flooding means dangerous conditions of high, fast-moving water can occur on roadways without warning. Quickly rising, fast moving water in streams and rivers can also occur without warning.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to be on the alert for possible flooding conditions.#8203;
Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving.
Road closures may occur without notice.Persons near streams and rivers must remain alert for changing conditions.
High surf may cause dangerous conditions for ocean users and coastal residents.
If lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
You will be updated as conditions change.

I got a flash flood alert via email today. Yet we're forecast to only get 1/4" of rain. This happened a couple weeks ago too (no, NOT the weekend of The Thunderstorm). Big warning then no heavy rain anywhere on the island. Maybe the guy that sent out the false nuclear attack message got a new job at the weather service.

BTW, anyone else just google "weather 96760"? You can switch the graph from temperature to precipitation, then go through each day to see *when* it will be rainy. It has been useful lately for planning my outdoor work in between the showers.

I've found that The National Weather Service website is pretty reliable. Also, Hawaii Weather Today website. They usually give almost the same forecast though. Also, if you call 935-8555 you can get the forecast for any part of the island. That Facebook alert must be a prank because the National Weather Service says Kauai and Oahu may get thunderstorms on Wednesday, not Monday.

This is the Hawaii area synopsis from NWS:
"A front near Maui will will continue to move east today and tonight accompanied by some passing light showers. Moisture is expected to linger near The Big Island into early next week while a drier airmass will be over the rest of the state. Winds will generally be on the light side favoring a northerly direction."
