County is out of control - My 2 cents - 04-29-2018 Now they've got the Na Hoa Holomoku of Hawaii Yacht Club in their crosshairs. http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2018/04/29/hawaii-news/yacht-clubs-future-uncertain-after-order-to-remove-vessels-from-bayfront/ RE: County is out of control - geochem - 04-29-2018 Can't disagree on the thread title - but it's not the Hilo Yacht Club, it's another one that doesn't have their own space and were using permissions given to UH for use of County land to store boats. RE: County is out of control - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 04-29-2018 What about tradition? The tradition of a yacht club to have boats? Near the ocean? I can't wait for the county to notice another traditional gathering... of tarp shelters along Kalanianaole every summer. Flammable tarps set up less than 10 feet apart from one another, filled with families and children, and Weber grills. But yet, a couple of catamarans at the yacht club are the biggest problem along Bayfront? Portion of Hawaii’s drinking water that comes from underground wells : 9/10 Gallons of raw sewage that leak into the ground from Hawaii cesspools each day : 53,000,000 - Harper's Index RE: County is out of control - My 2 cents - 04-29-2018 quote: Edited to correct the name. Thank you Geochem. RE: County is out of control - MarkD - 04-29-2018 "I can't wait for the county to notice another traditional gathering... of tarp shelters along Kalanianaole every summer." Yes those folks are a likely target. Isn't that illegal camping? The County might be taking some of these high-handed actions because they irritated that they haven't figured out how to roust the homeless who are sprawled out in the Mooheau Bandstand every day. They're having a fit. RE: County is out of control - alaskyn66 - 04-29-2018 Why dont they have a loiter tax, say ten dollars a day.. or twenty foodstamps. RE: County is out of control - Frank - 04-29-2018 Well, it shocked the hell out of all us. I'm a proud member of NHH for the past 5-6 years, learned to sail with this club...here is our web site for more info on the club. http://www.hilo-sailing.org/ RE: County is out of control - leilanidude - 04-29-2018 "Parks and Recreation Director Roxcie Waltjen said the beach needs to be cleaned in advance of the International Va‘a Federation’s outrigger canoe World Sprint Championships in 2020." ---- So 2 years from now is some event that needs to have the beach cleaned? Roxcie Waltjen is some new sort of stupid. No wonder she works for the County. RE: County is out of control - mikewj - 04-29-2018 Roxcie is right! Timing is everything.. First set up a series of meetings to choose a committee to determine how much of taxpayer's cash can be spent for a survey. Then appropriate $20 - 30,000 to pay for the survey. Then meetings to decide who gets to do the survey. Then survey decides the scope of the job. Next put the job out to tender, gather bids, eliminate low bids and award job to a 'friend' of the council. Job then gets done, and meetings/committee set up to review and dismiss complaints about the way the job was done. Two years is probably not enough time. RE: County is out of control - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 04-29-2018 So 2 years from now is some event that needs to have the beach cleaned? Roxcie Waltjen probably asked a county worker for a rough time frame to move thirty five catamarans, pick up the area around it, perhaps some mowing and weed wacking, if he had to do it. "Ohhhhh, maybe about two years..."
