Pahoa landing strip reopening? - terracore - 05-28-2018

Huge activity at the Pahoa landing strip. Lots of work crews.

Explanation?

Any specialized equipment? Could you see markings on the vehicles that would ID the agencies or companies involved?

Oh, and BTW, where exactly is the Pahoa landing strip?

If memory serves right, it's now the access road to the cell tower

Okay. I'll bite. Which cell tower?

Next to the Pahoa water spigots. The easiest way to recognize it are the big orange aviation threat markers on the power lines.

ETA: They look kind of like big pumpkins on the power lines.

I didn't stop and look, so I don't have any information about who is doing the work, but there were a lot of them, on a holiday.

Here's some info on the airfield:

Thought the tower was between the PD/DMV and HPP. Guess I am getting too old to remember as last time in town was just before Luquins burned, and landing strip memory was in the way back machine trying to place what has changed.
Apologies.

"Thought the tower was between the PD/DMV and HPP."

The water spigots and the landing strip are in that area.

The Pahoa strip (next to the water spigots) was originally for crop dusters. In the 80's-90's was used by DEA for Marijuana eradication and has since become overgrown. The work being done now is to create a place for evacuating people if the need arises.

Who owns the landing strip? It's not in the faa database. Though the one in Mountain View is.

The 46-acre parcel behind the water spigots isn't much of a "landing strip", it's more like an access road to an antenna.
