Kapoho Bay and The Tide Pools - 1voyager1 - 06-12-2018

From recent overflight videos, there looks to be replacement tide pools forming.
They might end up being a Sunday afternoon draw for locals again, as well as a potential tourist stop.

The sides of the island drop off steeply into the depths.
The delta being formed is pushing out into deeper and deeper water.
I'm beginning to wonder about the possibility of the delta collapsing.
I have heard nothing about anything like this happening yet.
I would think that the further it pushes out, the more likely it is to happen.

It sure does look like there will be a new and incredible coastline out there in Kapoho.

Map makers are gonna have trouble keeping up. Wink

Cheers,

When can we buy and subdivide this new land? When will the roads and water lines through the rift be restored? Let's get rich! /s

Not sure how it would be handled.
My money is on the county taking possession from the last recorded shoreline out, taking their waterfront status away from the existing lots.
They certainly won't let them extend their lots out to the new waterfront after the new survey to locate corner posts.
They'll probably set it aside for a new park to be made sometime around 2250.

All newly-created land belongs to the State.

Without looking ... I would guess that it's automatically Conservation.

“... automatically Conservation.”

Until the state gets into cahoots with some developer to subdivide it.

I guess it would make to much sense to make Kapoho bay area a state park. Plenty of other land for subdivisions.

HVO is addressing the possibility of a delta collapse in its updates:

The ocean entry is a hazardous area. ... Also, the lava delta is unstable because it is built on unconsolidated lava fragments and sand. This loose material can easily be eroded away by surf, causing the new land to become unsupported and slide into the sea. ...
