130 to Kalapana status - kimo wires - 06-23-2018

I heard the road is open to local traffic to Kalapana.
Is there checkpoints or can anyone go now?

Yep, you need a resident placard to get through the checkpoint.

A facebook user told me you can get through on Wednesday evenings if you are going to Uncle Robert's. It is just hearsay, but we may try this Wednesday.

From whom?

RE: 130 to Kalapana status - AaronM - 06-24-2018

Not sure, but someone with the official thermostat readings that have increased from and average of 134 to 152.

RE: 130 to Kalapana status - JohnDW - 06-24-2018

The temperature is indicated on the IR and PTZ camera tour.

Plates 22-25: 101.3F
P 26-29: 102.5F
P 34-37: max. 143.2F; avg. 128.7F; min. 82.7F
and so on and so forth.

The temperatures change all the time; although they heat up during the day and cool down at night there's been no dramatic changes since I started watching.

USGS says: 6/23/18 USGS scientists monitor the temperature of ground cracks (covered by steel plates) in the area of Highway 130. No changes in temperature, crack width, or gas emissions have been noted for several days.
