The Hawaii Property Tax Association (HPIA) offers home insurance in all the lava zones. Not sure why folks selected Lloyds of London.

It was not offered at various times. It recently just opened up again for new customers. it is also much more expensive (and should be) than the other policies, even those that did offer lava coverage. HPIA however, does not offer hurricane coverage.

It is not a rumor. Lloyds for me was 1800 without lava, 2400 with. HPIA is 3400 (quote as of last week) and does not cover hurricane like my Lloyds policy. Older homes will generally cost more to insure than a newer one.

I had a feeling something like this would happen. I feel for Phil and his family. Your insurance company is supposed to make you whole. Lloyd's was the only choice for a lot of folks.

Question. I don't live in the affected lava areas, but send my thoughts and prayers to those who have. I am wondering if anyone has had dealings with Dongbu Insurance and how they have been treated? Just looking to the future. Mahalo
