illegal aliens face prosecution because they have broken the law

Undocumented resident aliens: yes.

Asylum seekers: no, it is not illegal to present yourself and request asylum.

Scary how someone who writes laws doesn’t know the executive branch does not write laws. These laws come from her branch of government, not the executive branch. You don’t like the laws, then change them. The president has no control of the laws on the books, they only enforce them. The law was simply explained to her, the law her branch of government wrote, and she still couldn’t understand. That’s pretty special.

You guys seem to be missing the obvious source of Hirono's confusion. Trump's zero tolerance policy towards prosecutions is unprecedented, causing families to be separated. They have not faced prosecution prior to this administration, therefore it's clearly not a given that they must be because they've broken the law.

It is certainly an alien concept here in Hawaii County that all laws on the books would be enforced and enforced fairly. Imagine thousands of homeowners fined $500 a day until they tear down their unpermitted homes? Or everyone who goes 5mph over the speed limit getting a ticket? Rather than complain about laws actually being enforced, we should change or repeal the laws.
