Ohana code change? - DoryGray - 08-14-2018

Someone mentioned the ban on "permitted" ohana zoning has been suspended due to the dire need for housing post eruption. I would like to build a permitted detached ohana on my 1 acre ag land in HPP. I did a search, nothing. Anyone?

a permitted detached ohana on my 1 acre ag land

Supposedly, the building code "emergency exemptions" are only being applied to projects that County likes, not "private property", due to "lack of services".

Maybe ... file for permits, and see what County says? It should only take 9-12 months for them to get back to you.

yep, know the drill.

It has been said that exemptions are being made on a case-by-case basis, but you have to go down and talk to them in person. Good luck!

I suggest you email them and make the ask in writing. They are required to respond in writing. Verbally they can say anything one day and another thing the next day.

The “ case by case “ thing is illegal in a lot of states, it is basis of corruption. Can write lots of conditions and exceptions in a code but it should be the same for everyone

County Code is littered with the phrase "at the discretion of the Director"...
